From Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges, stop to ride the Melrose to Wilmington rail trail. Take a break from biking to hike through Alligator Gorge, surrounded by towering cliffs, ravines, and lush vegetation. This stunning gorge offers incredible photo opportunities and a chance to experience the rugged beauty up close.

Spend three days exploring outback South Australia around Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre of mountains in the heart of the Flinders Ranges. Traverse stunning mountain ranges like Heysen, ABC, and Wilpena Pound, each offering breathtaking vistas and diverse wildlife. Marvel at unique geological formations, ancient fossils, and vibrant flora, a paradise for nature enthusiasts.


Immerse yourself in the region's cultural heritage with a guided tour at Sacred Canyon led by local Adnyamathanha guides. Learn about the history and traditions of the Adnyamathanha people, custodians of the land. Discover ancient rock engravings, hear captivating Dreamtime stories, and understand the spiritual significance of this sacred site.


In your spare time, hike through rugged landscapes, spotting emus, kangaroos, and diverse bird species. At night, gaze at clear, star-filled skies, a perfect end to your days in Australia's picturesque regions.


Continue your adventure in Clare Valley, riding the historic railway corridor turned Riesling Trail. Celebrated for its Riesling wines and award-winning reds, Clare Valley offers visits to famous wineries. Indulge in tastings and savour the rich flavours and traditions of South Australian winemaking amid serene vineyard landscapes, reflecting on your thrilling journey through the outback.






Full Itinerary

Day 1:

Arrive in Adelaide and stay at the Ibis.


Day 2: Adelaide – Rawnsley Park Station (Riding distance approx. 19km)

Your guides will pick you up from the Ibis at 8am. Depart Adelaide for the Flinders Ranges stopping in Laura for a bite to eat (2.5hr drive. Laura is famous for Golden North ice cream). Then head on to Melrose (30min drive) to ride the rail trail from Melrose to the turn off to Alligator Gorge. The bus will then drive in to Alligator Gorge in Mount Remarkable National Park, where we will go for a short hike into the gorge terraces.
Jump back in the bus and drive up to Rawnsley Park Station (2hr drive) where your accommodation will be for the next 3 nights.


Day 3:
Rawnsley Park Station – Razorback Lookout
(Riding distance approx. 30km)

Feel free to wake up early and catch the beautiful sunrise by taking one of the walking tracks in Rawnsley Park Station.
Take a short drive from Rawnsley Park Station to the park entrance of Wilpena Pound where you’ll jump on the bike and ride the Mawson Trail. This day of riding will mainly be between the Heysen Range and ABC Ranges. Take a packed lunch for the day and eat along the way. The scenery is nothing short of epic! For those wanting an extra challenge, you can finish the day off with a 3km
climb up to the Razorback Lookout. For those not wanting to climb on the bike, jump in the bus and we’ll drive you to the lookout.

Head back to Rawnsley Park Station where we will have everyone booked into the Woolshed restaurant for dinner.


Day 4:
Bulls Gap – Yanyanna Hut + Cultural tour of Sacred Canyon
(Riding distance approx. 40-45km)

Start the morning off by heading out to Sacred Canyon, experience the region's rich cultural heritage with a guided tour at Sacred Canyon led by local Adnyamathanha guides. Learn about the fascinating history and traditions of the Adnyamathanha people, the traditional custodians of the land. Discover ancient rock engravings, hear captivating Dreamtime stories, and gain a deeper understanding of the spiritual significance of this sacred site. (Tour is 2-3 hours)

You’ll then be driven up to Bulls Gap, where the days riding begins. Ride through the Trezona Range, heading straight towards the Heysen Range, then you’ll head south following the ridge of the ABC Range with absolutely stunning views looking back towards Wilpena Pound and St Mary’s Peak.

Cross Brachina Creek and head west along the Geological Trail towards Brachina Gorge. Brachina Gorge is one of the Flinders Ranges National Park's most popular and spectacular tourist attractions. The gorge is an important refuge for the Yellow Footed Rock Wallaby as well as many species of birds and reptiles.

The trail also showcases an impressive geological record from period of geological time between about 800 million and 500 million years ago, essentially offering visitors an insight into 130 million years of Earth’s history. The sedimentary layers of the gorge are considered one of the best exposed sites detailing the planet’s evolution.

Head back along the Geological trail to the Mawson Trail and head south until you reach Yanyanna Hut where we’ll pack the bikes away and drive back to Rawnsley Park Station.


Day 5:
Rawnsley Park Station – Clare Valley
(Riding distance approx. Self-guided)

We highly recommend that you take the last morning in the Flinders Ranges to book a scenic flight of the area if you have the budget. 30-minute flights in a fixed wing plane are $230 for this current season. If you think this may be of interest for you, let us know and we can help book you in.

Once we are checked out of Rawnsley, we’ll make the drive to the Clare Valley wine region (3hr drive), stopping in Jamestown along the way, famous for its local bakery.

When you get to Clare, you’ll have the choice to go on your own adventure out to wineries such as Skillogalee Winery and Kilakanoon Winery, or even relax and park the bike up for the day.

Please note that Clare Hillside Apartments can not split to twin beds. If separate beds are required, a 2-bedroom apartment can be booked at an additional $115.

That evening, head out for dinner with the crew to the Watervale Hotel for a group feast, awarded best restaurant in a pub or club in Australia!!


Day 6:
Clare Valley – Adelaide
(Riding distance approx. 45km)

Start the day off with a delicious breakfast from a local cafe in the township of Clare. On the last day of cycling, you’ll get to ride the full Riesling and Rattler Trails together. Stop along the way for a platter at O’Leary Walker and a wine tasting with chocolate pairing at Taylors, who have won best red wine at the international wine awards.

Finish off your ride along the beautiful Rattler Trail, which is all downhill through to Riverton and make the drive back to Adelaide (1hr 20min drive).

Spend your last night in Adelaide and reminisce about the amazing week you have had!


Day 7:
Tour concludes

Depart Adelaide at your own leisure.

Please note: Although this trip is amazing cycling, it is not suitable for beginners. The days riding in the Flinders Ranges can be rocky and it is all off-road (no sealed roads or paths), recommended for strong beginners – intermediate riders.
